Moxibustion Treatment
Moxibustion is one of the oldest tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It consists of applying heat by burning a moxa stick made from the Artemisia plant on specific energy points of the body, in order to stimulate the circulation of Qi (vital energy), Yang, and blood, relieve pain, and strengthen the immune system.
Its main advantage over other conventional treatments lies in its natural and non-invasive nature.
Moxa, used for centuries in various Eastern cultures, acts as a source of therapeutic heat that gently penetrates the meridians, helping to restore the body’s internal balance.
At our center, moxibustion is usually applied as an independent therapy or in combination with other Traditional Chinese Medicine practices such as acupuncture, Tui Na, or phytotherapy, thus enhancing the effects of the treatment.
What are the advantages of moxibustion compared to a more conventional treatment?

How moxibustion works in Kan and Li
In the first session, the specialist will conduct a personal interview to understand your case in depth: sleep quality, daily habits, digestive health, stress levels, and overall energy.
After this assessment, a personalized session will be prepared. The treatment consists of applying lit mugwort cones or cigars near strategic points on the body, generating a pleasant heat that penetrates the skin and stimulates the energy meridians.
In many cases, moxibustion is combined with acupuncture, Tui Na massage, or herbal medicine to enhance the results. It is common to experience a sensation of deep warmth, relaxation, and relief in the treated areas.

Frequently asked questions about moxibustion
-
After the interview, each person’s needs are assessed individually. For example, if we find internal cold or cold in a specific part of the body, we can use this effective tool, moxibustion, without any problem.
If, on the other hand, we find heat, it will not be suitable for this user.
That’s why it’s so important that the professional knows what they are doing at all times and to whom. -
We can say that moxibustion is safe if the proper technique is used on the right person.
In this case, the only thing that can happen is that we might accidentally burn ourselves with the moxibustion sticks or cones, which is uncommon. -
In cases of pregnancy, during the final stage, if the fetus is not positioned correctly, applying moxa to a specific point on the bladder meridian has very good results in repositioning the fetus so that the mother and baby can have a delivery with the fewest possible complications.
It has also proven effective for menstrual discomfort.
-
Moxibustion is very effective in cases where we find internal cold. For example: slow digestion, generalized coldness, slow metabolism, cold in the lower back, etc.
By applying heat, we can tone the body’s internal heat and accelerate the processes that cold slows down.
-
As always in Chinese Medicine, if the user’s analysis is done correctly, and moxibustion is indicated, there are usually no side effects, and if there are, they are very mild.
-
Moxibustion usually lasts between 15 and 20 minutes and is performed within the time of the acupuncture session.
-
The effects can be felt immediately. When the therapy is properly administered, a pleasant warmth and a feeling of decongestion are felt in the treated area.
-
As it is a minimally invasive therapy, it is unlikely to feel discomfort after a moxibustion session.
-
Moxibustion is performed at the time the acupuncture needles are in place; it is also possible to place small mugwort cigars on the handle of some needles to perform a technique called “hot needle” to provide Heat (Yang) to certain acupuncture points.
